An independent firm
with classical roots
and modern conviction.
Bancroft Price is owned by the people who do the work — beholden only to the families and institutions we serve.
From the Managing Partner
The disciplines of stewardship are old. Patience. Diversification. Margin of safety. The recognition that compounding is the most powerful force in finance, and that the principal threat to compounding is unforced error. These principles do not change.
What changes is the world the principles must operate in. The asset classes available to a stewardship-minded investor today are broader than they were a generation ago. Bitcoin did not exist. Allocated digital gold storage was not industrialized. Commodity markets had not yet been democratized. These are not fads. They are durable additions to the toolkit of the patient allocator — and we believe ignoring them is itself a form of imprudence.
We are not crypto enthusiasts. We are not gold bugs. We are fiduciaries who have done the work to evaluate every asset class on its merits, with the same rigor we bring to a municipal bond or a private equity commitment. That is the firm we have built.
What we believe.
Independence
We are employee-owned and accept no commissions. Our advice is paid for by our clients and no one else.
Patience
Compounding is the most powerful force in finance. We build portfolios for decades, not for quarters.
Open-mindedness
We evaluate asset classes on their merits, not on convention. The instruments change; the discipline does not.
Discretion
Privacy is not a feature of our work. It is the foundation. We say little publicly, and we mean it.
Selectivity
We grow only as quickly as we can serve well. The right answer to most opportunities — in markets and in clients — is no.
Candor
We tell clients what we believe, even when — especially when — it is not what they hoped to hear.
We hold cryptocurrency, precious metals, and commodities not because they are fashionable, but because they are underwriteable — and because true diversification has always required a willingness to look where others do not.
